Conducting | Teaching | Singing
I am the Musical Director of Soon Amore, a Yorkshire-based chamber choir. As a semi-professional conductor, I was also the founding director of York's youth choir, and in 2000-2002 I was Creative Director of York Voices, a community choir based in the city.
From 1999 to 2002, I directed a student ensemble, the York Glee Singers. During this period, we were shortlisted for the London final of a national competition, sang concerts and services across the north of England, and recorded our first CD.
In the past, I have worked extensively with choirs and musical groups of all ages and standards, conducting rehearsals, concerts and competitions. I have also run public workshops on choral and singing technique. I have been Musical Director for several stage productions, including orchestrating and directing the 2003 show for Flying Ducks Youth Theatre in Yorkshire, which involved training a cast of 40 young people and rehearsing a big-band style ensemble. I directed a 60-strong 'Come & Sing Fauré's Requiem' in York, and I now act as a regular guest conductor for the Micklegate Singers under Nicholas Carter.
I am a concert-level classical guitarist and have played percussion for several noted brass bands in the north of England. I now teach guitar professionally and have previously taught percussion to school-age children.
I was trained as a treble in the choir of St Nicholas Guisborough. Since then, I have sung with the Huddersfield Choral Society, Halifax Choral Society and Halifax Young Singers. I added my voice to a performance for European heads of state at the Karlspreis ceremony in Germany; the BBC's title music for the 1999 Rugby World Cup; BBC Songs of Praise; BBC Radio 4 morning broadcasts; and several commercially available CDs.
I currently sing as a tenor with the Micklegate Singers, and in an 8-part liturgical chamber group which meets several times a year in West Yorkshire.
